REMEMBER, WISDOM IS JUST A SIX-LETTER WORD IF WE DON'T DO ANYTHING WITH IT!
Who is a 79er?
Several class officers and other members gathered a few years ago at a meeting called by the Class President, and among many things discussed was a definition of who may be deemed a 79er and therefore meets the approval of being a member of the Class of 1979. Obviously, the folks that graduated in May of 1979 are members of the Class of 79. The question still came up because of others who didn't quite fully fit in a nice, neat category. What was decided is as follows:
You are considered a member of the McK 79ers,
1) If you graduated from McKinley High School in May of 1979 with a diploma. (That's obvious), or
2) You attended McKinley High (all or part of the year) and werein Ninth grade during 1975-76 school year, whether you went on to graduate in May 1979 or not, or
3) You attended McKinley High (all or part of the year) and were in Tenth grade during the 1976-77 school year, whether you went on to graduate in May 1979 or not, or
4) You attended McKinley High (all or part of the year) and were in Eleventh grade during 1977-78 school year, whether you went on to graduate in May 1979 or not, or
5) You attended McKinley High and were in Twelfth grade anytime during the 1978-79 school year, whether you went on to graduate in May 1979 or not.
If someone meets any one of these criteria then they are a McK 79er and are expected to be part of any and all 79er activities, functions, and contribute to success of the group. This definition allows us to happily include people who were our classmates at any time in high school. This means those that may have started with us and later transferred to another school and graduated elsewhere, those that may have not graduated on time for whatever unfortunate reason, those that may have gone on to get a GED at some later period in their lives, and other similar situations. It was concluded that we really did not want to omit anybody that was our classmate at any time in high school. They all shared the same classrooms, same teachers, same experiences, and many of the friends as those of us that actually received a diploma from McKinley in 1979. No matter how you qualify to be a member of the McKinley Class of 1979, we are glad you are with us. Feel the love! We'll see you at the next 79er event.
OK. Is there anybody that still doubts our greatness?
